There are times when you need to brush, but for one reason or another, you can’t. You may have either a toothbrush or toothpaste, or you might not have either one? What do you do?
If you don’t have a toothbrush, a little toothpaste on your finger, followed by a good rinse with water can do the job for the moment. Hard cheese can scrub your teeth, and cheese and yogurt contain enzymes and calcium that will help your smile. Crunchy fruits and vegetables will also clean your teeth, and they contain water that can help wash away harmful acids from your food. Sugarless gum is no substitute for brushing, but it will stimulate the production of saliva which will cleanse your teeth of bacteria and acids.
If you have your toothbrush, but forgot your toothpaste, put a little water on your toothbrush, or just use a dry toothbrush to clean your teeth. It may not feel as refreshing as using toothpaste, but it will remove the plaque from your teeth. If you can find castile soap, a drop on your toothpaste can be very effective. The soap is often scented with peppermint, which is effective at cleaning your teeth.
Of course, these are things you can do in a pinch. You should brush your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste as soon as you can; and you should always brush your teeth twice a day, floss before bed, and see your dentist for your routine checkups.
